A blueprint is a guide for making something. The literal meaning of a blueprint is a blue paper with plans for a building printed on it. Blueprints are also very interesting as sophisticated art pieces, and you can easily make them yourself, as we’ll show in this blueprint art tutorial.
Firstly, download materials you need, that is a blueprint pattern and a suitable image. You can draw simple white lines yourself and put them over a blue background, however it is easier and faster to find a free blueprint image or pattern. You can try the ones from this page, or simply google for “free blueprint texture”. For free blueprints check this place.
I have found an interesting Soviet space rocket design, and made a blueprint texture myself. Those images are available as free download. Please, check the download link at the bottom of this page.
Now, let’s make an interesting poster.
Open Photoshop or any other graphic editing software you are comfortable with, and make a new file with size of 8x10inch, 300dpi, and Adobe RGB color profile.
Import blueprint texture image and resize if needed.
Next, import actual blueprint image, and put it over blueprint texture layer.
Invert layer with shortcut CMD+I or Image –⟩ Adjustments –⟩ Invert.
Set layer blend mode to Screen.
Adjust brightness and contrast, and that’s it, you ready to print your new blueprint wall art.
In addition to that, you can also add some text, but that’s up to you.
